Upcoming Events

We hope everyone had a restful Spring Break!  We spent some time in our classrooms getting ready for the last part of the year.  We can't believe how fast it is going by.  Here are some upcoming events, keep an eye out for more information coming home in your child's folder:

  • Pre-kindergarten (VPK) packets available April 2-13
  • JBE Spring Carnival is this Thursday, April 5 from 5-7pm.  This is open to the community as well as our families. The teachers will host booths with games and educational information. We will also have a booth sharing information on grade levels PK-3 for your child next year including Common Core Standards and Next Generation Sunshine State Standards. You can preorder tickets through the front office for a discounted price, but tickets will also be available at the gate!
  • Parent/Teacher conferences are coming soon, check your child's folder daily for updates!
  • SAC & PTO Meetings Tuesday, April 10th at 6 & 7pm.  Please come support your child's classroom and give your valuable opinion on important issues!
  • No School this Friday!! (Good Friday)
  • Early Release at 12:10 & Extended Day Parent Conferences by appointment– April 11 (1:00-7:30)
  • We are going to continue working on non-fiction text but we will be focusing on comparing and contrasting different types of non-fiction as well as dictionary skills.
  • We are introducing compound words in phonics, (examples: undid, hotdog, batman) WOW these are tough words, we must be getting close to second grade! ;)
  • Place Value is the big word in math this month.  If you see a two-digit number ask your child to tell you which digit is in the tens and ones place.  They should be able to tell you!
  • Our plant unit is starting in science this week.  We can't wait to see what we can grow!

More Animal Research Projects

We are continuing to work on reading and writing non-fiction text.  To tie into our "animal" unit we had our students do research on an animal of their choice. We then worked on writing a non-fiction book on their animal and then the students worked with their parents to make models of their animals.  It was a very fun project and we were so amazed by their creativity!  Here are examples of some exemplary work:

Amaree and her frogs
Arais loves a giraffe

Bradley isn't scared of alligators!
Caleb is such an artist

Evan's llama diorama
Luke's lion is so original!

Sarah is proud of her work
Ewww! Snakes!

Jacob taught us a lot about opossums!
Our animal project party animals!

Madison and her deer project
Look at Daniel's jungle!

Jamaria taught us all about penguins
Tristen's creative ostrich board

Timothy is such a creative author!

Ashlee is so proud of her project!

Animal Research Projects

The students have spent a lot of time collecting information from non-fiction texts about their chosen animal. With that information the students created a book of interesting facts and completed an at home project displaying their animal in their own creative way. The projects turned out wonderful and we were happy to share them with parents Friday March 23.
